Lanzarote 2019 - Dia 2

We planned for today, the trekking to Caldera Blanca, but the stargazing last night let us a bit tired, so we changed the plans, and went to the southwest of the island, to the Salinas de Janubio. (Salt mines)

There is also a salt water lake and the beach near the mines. The beach is full of black pebbles and as the sea in this shore is wild, swimming is not allowed.

We walked along the lake shore and to some abandoned constructions, probably for the salt extraction. Marty and Marta walked up the narrow stairs. I didn't want to look. Inside the "building" there were the remains of old DNI's burned and cut.

On our way back to the parking, we saw a signal not allowing the walk along the lake shore or even to touch the water... well, a bit late.. There were also people walking with their dogs..

We continued up north to Los Hervideros. Where the sea literally "boils" crashing with the rocks and coves of the cliffs. A beautiful place. Be careful if the day is windy.

We ended the morning in El Golfo, but we only could see the lake from the mirador, because the road to the beach was closed.

In the afternoon, we went on our abandoned places route, and visit the Faro de Pechiguera, a lighthouse in the south of the island. The old lighthouse dated from 1866 is listed as a property of cultural interest. The building of the "new" lighthouse is almost ruined and the lighthouse works remotely

In the afternoon, we barely managed to get to the abandoned Hotel Atlante del Sol. In a beautiful place, near the Charcones, the hotel is ruined and have a certain appeal.

Going down the rocks, people were swimming in the Charcones, natural pools, created between the rocks when the tide is low. Stunning sunsets there.

We almost crashed the car with a big rock on the way back. The terrain was certainly rocky, but the hotel and the charcones were totally worth it.

Lanzarote 2019 - Dia 1

As every summer, looking for the ocean to charge the batteries.
This year, David chose Lanzarote, because of its desertic and moon landscape.

I showed you already my journal cover on instagran. Here it is again.
Made with jeans, I used a sea horse silhouette from TodoStencil, painting with the dip technique with Decoart acrylics.

Our hotel was in the south of the island and the trip from the airport was completely worth it.
We arrived at noon and our rooms were not ready, so we took advantge of our all inclusive bracelets and waited for the rooms by one of the pools. The rooms, sea view, had a couple of problems that the staff promptly resolved and just after lunch, we started our route. (If you want my complete review of the hotel, you can read it on TripAdvisor)

Our first stop, a escape room. We keep our traditions..
We chose "el galeón de la Razia", at Try to escape Lanzarote, near Costa Teguise. A pirate themed room
Very well themed and immersive. All kind of difficulties for the puzzles, some padlocks and a bit of help from Miriam and we escaped with several minutes left.

Back from the room, we stopped at the Telamon Shipwreck. It is so close to the shore that you can see everything. Marty loves abandoned places so he enjoyed this moment a lot.
The goverment, owners and port authorities are still arguing about who is responsible for cleaning the zone, so for now, the ship is still there.

At dawn on the 13rd it was the perfect moment to stargaze and watch the Perseids. We were on the right place, with clean and open skies, with no artificial light... The problem was the moon, almost full, it really shone and made the stargazing difficult. Despite the moon, we went to an abandoned road with no lights and, on the car's hood, Marta and David caught a couple of meteors. I, on the other hand, didn't know if I saw stars or what due to the lack of sleep and the cold out there.

That's all for the first day. I hope you join me for the rest of the week in our adventure towards the volcano Caldera Blanca.

Escape Rooms - Art Journal

Looking back at our summer, one of the best family moments has been a new escape room.

For those of you who do not know what an escape room is, it is a room (or rooms) where you and your group is locked in. You have one hour to escape, using your logic and skills to resolve puzzles. All of it linked by a story and with the help of hints if you need them and want them.

We have already escaped from several rooms, so I thought that it would be great to do an art journal to tell all these experiences.

Since I want it to be thick (many more rooms to come), it is mainly watercolors, drawings, pictures of the achievement and lettering.

So far, we have escaped from 8 rooms. Have a look at their webs, and give them a try. Perfect for family fun.

El Búnker, en Fox in a Box, Madrid
Escape from Alcatraz, en Escape SF, San Francisco
Prison Break, en Fox in a Box, Madrid
White and Black, en The Xdoor, Tenerife
Zodiac Killer, en Fox in a Box, Madrid

Así va mi art journal hasta ahora.

Here is my journal so far.

Art Journal XXL - 50

English, please scroll down

50 years old. That's blunt!

I don't usually take stock of the past years, nor make resolutions for the upcoming ones, but I try to live day by day and enjoy it. Not bad, so far.

But it seems that 50 is a good moment to look back and -as Serrat told- "recognize myself without shame". And a good place to do so, is Asturias.

My hubby took me to the "Green Coast" for the weekend. Warm weather, spectacular deserted beaches and beautiful scenery. "Fabada and cachopo" and the very best company. What else?

So, my 50 years deserves a page on my XXL art journal.

A simple background, gesso, inktense and crackle paste. I used and old card I made for Todo Stencil. You can see the step by step on their blog. A bit of this and that and the journaling to finish a meaningful page.

Ivo Pogorelich

English, please scroll down

*******************

I took again my XXL Art Journal. I needed space to write what it means to me to meet Ivo Pogorelich and to keep the program of the concerts with his signature.

Some of you know about my love for the music in all its senses. And even though I didn't follow it professionally, the sound of the piano has been always my favorite.

One of my favorite pianist ever has been Ivo Pogorelich. I had my books at school all covered with photos of his records with Deutsche Grammophon. I think that he's been my all time crush (Yes, my husband know it) But I didn't like him only for his look (which was great btw). His rebel personality was overwhelming, irresistible. His "diva" looks and attitude in his concerts was often criticized. Not by me. He could be all "diva" he wanted. His flawless technique, his passion and expressiveness were enough justification.

I was lucky to see him in a concert in Madrid a long time ago. He got to the stage like he was under a spell. It was a whole experience to listen to play live.

His personal life has been scrutinized as a TV series script. His beginnings not winning the Chopin contest in Varsaw, his marriage with his piano teacher way older than him, her death not long after, the lack of recordings and concerts after and his return to the stage a few years ago.

Last december, while looking for some concerts for this year, I saw that he was going to play in Valencia, so I got the tickets right away, not seeing the program, nor the dates. After having the tickets I realized that he was going to come to Madrid, and with the Rachmaninov Concerto nº 2, no less. I got the tickets. No questions

The Valencia concert was extraordinary. We were lucky to see him warming up before the concert. I couldn't take my eyes from his fingers.

But the concert in Madrid was wonderful. Not only for Rachmaninov concerto, which is spectacular, but for seeing Pogorelich breath the passion for the piano. His hands fly over the keys and his whole body plays the music. I enjoyed it immensely. And I really enjoyed sharing such a special moment with Marty, because I now he also enjoyed the concert and seeing me so happy.

After Rachmaninov, Pogorelich was kind enough to sign some programs and discs and have some pictures taken. I was right on line and I couldn't hide my excitement of being beside him. He is a mature man now, not that rebel guy that I have all over my books (and he is so handsome being almost 60 y.o.)

I know he has lot of critics, because of his attitude, his interpretation, his performance, his technique, his changes.. He will be one of the best pianists of all times for me and I hope I have another chance to see him again in a next tour in Spain.

The NY times once wrote: "He played each note exactly, with such feeling, such expression. He was an entire orchestra"

The tassel was worth the hassle

English, scroll down, please.

"The tassel was worth the hassle". Todo el esfuerzo mereció la pena.

After 4 years of hard work and study, Marta became a graduate in Psichology. And we are so proud of her.

The graduation ceremony was in a big venue in the city center and, despite my expectations, it was entertaining. The dean and professor's speeches were not so "heavy" and the two valedictorian were funny and enjoyable.

It was so emotional to see Marta with her sash and diploma.

We took thousands of pictures, but I decided not to include any of them in my Art Journal. In my page, I tell how the day went, Marta's new projects and the sentiments and emotions of the ceremony. Everything can be summed up in one sentence: "The tassel was worth the hassle".

And for a more crafty day, I made a card for Marta and each of her friends, to writhe their memories

Ahora, a por el siguiente reto, Marta.

Now, for new challenges, Marta. Way to go!

2 CELLOS - ART JOURNAL PAGE

English, scroll down, please.

Yesterday, we went to the 2Cellos concert in Madrid. After having the tickets since December, at last, we have the chance to see them again.

We were lucky and went to one of the vip boxes at the WiZink Center. Such an "honor" ;)

And the concert began. After the presentation by Luka, speaking some sort of spanish/spanglish, Stjepan started his funny and witty comments and the show began.

A first part accompanied by an orchestra, in which they played some very well know soundtracks. From the Godfater to Game of Thrones or Charriots of Fire or Gladiator. A repertory quite slow. And a very bad sound. I have read some reviews and people are happy with the sound. Not me. The bass were terrible and the cellos were missing among the orchestra. Anyway, the 2cellos were incredible, as usual.

The second part was a blast. That was were everyone wanted to see. Without the orchestra, only the two of them with the drummer. The sound was much, much better and we enjoyed a rock and metal concert. Spectacular. We danced, screamed and were part of a great musical event.

The back screen, with video and live images was perfectly syncronized and the light effects added a perfect drama to the whole show.

Luka and Stjepan got us from the beginning and we enjoyed it a lot. We wanted more, and more. Hopefully they will return next year. We will be there to have another great time.

And now, they deserved a page in my art journal, don't you think?

Dashing through the snow

Friday off and a beautiful day to go to the mountains.

We woke up before dawn, because, if you want a parking spot, you must be up there before 8 a.m.

Once we started the mountain pass, the sun welcomed us with an espectacular day.

That deserves a page in my journal

Prague - Golden City of a Thousand Spires

I don't usually create scrapbooking layouts, but I saw this page in the stand of Todo Stencil in the Fair, and I couldn't resist.

The page is so beautiful that it doesn't need any more decorations, so I only set our picture with the Charles Bridge and the Castle on the backgroun and a couple or memorabilia from the trip.

The snowflakes trim, a reminder of the freezing cold there, is a set from Todo Stencil.

Nuestro "no tan típico" viaje a Praga. Our "not so ordinary" trip to Prague

One of the challenges of planning a family trip is to find activities for everyone. Too much museums or monuments is not the favourite part for David, so I have to find something to compensate.

This trip to Prague was in my "must see" list for ages, and finally we escaped for 6 days to the city of the 100 towers.

No falla.

First things first, our tradition of eating at McDonalds. It is the same food in every Mc of the planet. And there's always one nearby.

We didn't have any local change, because we have been told that better do the change in the city, in a specific office. Good change, no commission. This is the office. https://www.exchange.cz/

It was 4 pm and dark night when we went for a walk through the old town.

And yes, we have seen the "must see" and the typical highlights with thousand of other people, but what I'm going to show you are some hidden gems that are not so "tourist"

El código QR delante del ayuntamiento. Mira a ver dónde te lleva....

The QR code in front of the City Hall. Let's see where it goes...

The paternoster lift, one of the few that are still working in the world. You can see here how it works. A bit tricky when you hop on and off it.

At the time we crossed the Charles bridge, it was pouring down, but it didn't matter. We found the narrowest street in Prague, which is regulated by a traffic light

Las esculturas que dibujan mensajes haciendo pis. Si, tal cual....

The sculptures that draw messages while peeing. Yes, that's it.

The swans at the edge of Moldava river

John Lennon wall, where we left our print

The yellow penguins, lighting at night

El piano gigante de Hamley's

The giant piano at Hamley's

Filming locations of Outlander tv series (season 2-Paris). L´Hopital des Anges, the stairs toward Master Raymond apothecary and the Versailles room where Jamie plays chess.

Walking through the city, you must look up. All the buildings are beautiful, in every facade you can see blazons or drawings or sculptures.

We did a private tour through the castel neighbourhood with Tereza, a local girl. Philologist. She gave us a history lesson while strolling by quaint and picturesque areas almost empty. A pleasure.

In the castle, David meet a couple of YouTubers that are followed by his cousin. They took a picture together just to make her green eyed. What were the probabilities?

More "different" things to do. I contacted a local professional photographer to teach the kids a workshop about night and light painting photography. Very kind and professional, he taught them a lot of tricks to play with the camera. In the freezing cold....

The making off :)

As usual, and becoming a new tradition, we played in a escape room. This time, "the alchemist's chamber", in which we had to find the philosopher's stone. We had so much fun. We broke our record and we did it in a bit more that 40 min. Very well themed. With puzzles not so difficult, not so easy, and very creative. We didn't need any hint.

We took the cable car to Petrin Hill, where there's a "copy" of the Eiffel Tower and a mirror maze, that it's not worthy, unless you are with little children. However, we played a bit, of course.

We still looked up to find the "girl with paper swalow" or Kafka hanging on a building. We looked through a tunnel made of books.

The icing of the cake was a Christmas concert in the Klementinum Mirror Chapel. What a pleasure. The room is beautiful. Even one of the organs there was played by Mozart. For those who love the classical music, this is a magical place.

Ah! y cogimos "Pokemones" nuevos :)

And yes, we saw and listen to the astronomical clock, we walked by the Charles brige (and many more), we saw the dancing houses, the jewish quarter, the cemetery, the synagogues, the castle, the cathedral, the national theater, the Wenceslas square, lots of churches, the powder tower, the old and new town, the Prague of Kafka, we ate klobasas, trdlo and hot wine. I didn't taste the beer. It was very cold. We walk by lots of Christmas markets, we listened to a couple of choirs singing christmas carols and over all, we enjoyed our time together. Oh!, and we catched new Pokemon

I touched the statue of S. John of Nepomuk in Charles bridge. That means we will come back again, right?
