WHATEVERS II - My first love

Good morning dear readers: 

I had a lot of fun reading your naughty stories of your childhood. 
We did a selection and we're publishing them in this issue of Modern Voices. 

From all the stories you told us, I picked this one. It's not exactly a mischief but I love how cute it is. 

"Hello, my name is Paul and I would like to tell you something that happened to me when I was only 5 y.o. I still remember it vividly. 

I remember Ms. Pitts taking care of us a couple of hours in the mornings. We were a group of 10 kids, all from the same neighborhood: 2 girls and 8 boys. You can imagine how popular the "little princesses" were. 

But the girls were not quite princesses. They knew, we -the boys- would do anything for them. We played moms and dads, we disguised ourselves as princes, we played with dolls, we danced... we also played at doctors and nurses although that game -I didn't know well why- I liked it. ;) 

Tim was Mariah's favourite and I was terribly jealous. Tim was more worried about his teddy bear and his ball, but Mariah only had eyes for him. 

I tried to grab her attention and I even let her play with my wooden train. But no way. She just ignored me. 

Some day, at home, my mother was talking to a neighbour about a man who was marrying cousin Cathy in a week and all of us were invited. 

That day, I was dressed with my very best suit. I dressed elegant trousers with strips and I was told that I had to carry the rings -the most important task in my life- and a girl would bring a basket with flowers. 

We arrived to the church and there she was, Mariah. Radiant with a flower crown. She was my partner that day. I was so captivated that I tripped over the carpet and I dropped the rings. My mother smacked me: "pay more attention", she said. But my attention was only for Mariah. She was walking down the aisle looking like an angel. I didn't exist for her, but I didn't care. 

Once the ceremony finished, they gave us a lollipop and let us going outside to play. 

Suddenly, Mariah was very close to me. I didn't know how, but she wore a beautiful veil and flowers.. She took my hand and she told me: "Are you going to kiss me, or do I have to lie to my diary?" 

That was my first kiss, strawberry flavoured, and I'll never forget it." 

Isn't that cute? This story made me remember my first kiss and I came up with the idea for the next issue.

Lo que nos hemos reido leyendo vuestras travesuras en la epoca del colegio. 
Hemos hecho una selección que publicamos en este número de Modern Voices 

De todas las historias que nos habéis contado, me quedo con ésta, que aunque no se trate de una travesura, me ha parecido de lo más tierna. 

"Hola, me llamo Paul y quiero contaros algo que me pasó en mi infancia, con tan solo 5 años, y que aun recuerdo vivamente. 

Recuerdo que la señora Pitts nos cuidaba durante unas horas por las mañanas. Éramos un grupo de 10 niños, todos vecinos del barrio. 2 niñas y 8 niños.Os podéis imaginar lo solicitadas que estaban las princesitas.. 

Lo malo es que de princesas tenían poco. A sabiendas de que haríamos cualquier cosa por ellas, nos traían por el camino de la amargura. Jugábamos a las mamás y a los papás, a las princesas, a vestir a las muñecas, bailábamos... aunque también jugábamos a los médicos y eso -no sabía muy bien por qué- me gustaba. 

Mariah tenía predilección por Tim y a mí me devoraban los celos. Tim estaba más preocupado por no perder su osito de peluche y jugar con la pelota. Pero Mariah solo tenía ojitos para él. 

Yo intentaba llamar su atención y le dejaba jugar con mi tren de madera. Pero nada, ni caso. 

Un día, en casa, mamá estaba hablando con una vecina sobre un señor que se iba a casar con la prima Cathy y que ibamos a ir todos a la boda dentro de una semana. 

Ese día, me vistieron de tiros largos. Llevaba unos pantalones de tirantes y me dijeron que yo tendría que llevar los anillos -que era muy importante- y que otra niña llevaría una cestita con flores. 

Llegamos a la iglesia y allí estaba ella, Mariah, radiante con una corona de flores. Era mi "pareja". Me quedé tan embelesado, que tropecé y se me cayeron los anillos. Mi madre me dio una colleja, para que anduviera más espabilado. Pero yo solo tenía ojos para Mariah, que iba caminando por el pasillo hacia el altar como si fuera un ángel. Yo no existía para ella, pero me daba igual, con tal de poder mirarla. 

Al terminar la ceremonia, a los niños nos dieron unas piruletas y  nos dejaron salir a jugar al patio de la iglesia. 

De repente Mariah se acercó a mí. Llevaba un ramito de flores y un velo que no sé de dónde había sacado. Me cogió de la mano y me dijo: "vas a besarme o tendré que mentir en mi diario"? 

Ese fue mi primer beso, con sabor a piruleta de fresa y que nunca olvidaré." 

¿No es tierno? Este relato me hizo recordar mi primer beso y me dió una idea para el artículo de portada del próximo número: 

El próximo mes, en vuestra revista favorita "modern voices": El primer amor

The Whatevers es un proyecto creativo y literario creado por Cat Scanlon, Vicki Chrisman y Nathalie Kalbach en 2012. Este año,  Martha Richardson y yo, nos unimos al equipo

¿Has estado alguna vez en un mercadillo y tener una extraña sensación al mirar fotos del año de la polca?. A veces, hay alguna pista de la historia de esas personas, la ciudad, el nombre del fotógrafo, alguna dedicatoria detrás, pero ya está. ¿Ya esta? desconocidos y olvidados sin nombre y sin historia.

Así funciona:

• Vicki, Cat, Martha, Nat y yo, nos hemos comprometido durante un año a darles una historia a 12 fotos de los "Whatevers" que hemos elegido.
• Cada mes - a ser posible el día 15- cada una de nosotras subirá un proyecto artístico con su historia particular para la foto elegida ese mes.
• Si te apetece, puedes "jugar con nosotras". Tendremos la foto del mes disponible para descargar y así puedas enseñarnos tu versión de los Whatevers. La foto la pondremos al final de nuestros respectivos post en los blogs - no en facebook.
• No hay normas para la historia que cuentes - puede ser divertida, triste, impresionante, desgarradora... Lo que sea.
• No hay normas en la duración o forma de la historia - puede ser una simple frase, un ensayo, un poema, un culebrón... lo que sea.
• No hay normas para el tipo de trabajo artístico que hagas - puede ser una página de scrapbook, un proyecto alterado, una página de artjournal... lo que sea.
• Aunque SI hay una norma: Si te bajas la foto, tienes que enlazarnos y enseñarnos tu historia.
• Estas fotos son de nuestra colección particular y son exclusivamente para uso personal. Si quieres utilizarlas para una publicación, ya sea un libro, una revista tanto impresa como digital, por favor, pídenos permiso.
• Si quieres participar, tendremos un enlace de inlinkz para cada post de los whatevers.

The Whatevers – is a creative story telling project founded by Cat Scanlon, Vicki Chrisman and Nathalie Kalbach in 2012. This year, also  Martha Richardson and me joined the team.

Have you ever been to a flea market and then had this weird sensation of those faces from long ago times looking at you? Sometimes you find a little trace of the history on those photos, the name and city of the photographer, a scribbled note or year on the back of the photo…but that is it. There is no more ….Really…no more? They are forgotten as long as they have no name and no story…

Here is how it works

• Vicki, Cat, Nat, Martha and I have made a one-year commitment to each other and picked twelve photos with Whatevers whom we will give a story.
• Every month – if possible always on the 15th –  each of us will do a post with an individual story that goes along for us with the same photo.
• If you want you can play along and we will have the photo for you to download and show us your version of The Whatevers. The photo will be posted at the end of our blogposts- not on Facebook!
• There is no rules to the story itself- it can be funny, sad, uplifting, breathtaking- WHATEVER
• There is no rules on the length or the form of the story- it can be a short sentence, an essay, a poem or a soap opera – WHATEVER
• There is no rules on the artform you choose – it can be a scrapbook layout, an altered art project, an artjournal page – WHATEVER
• Here is a rule though: if you take the photo you have to link back to us and show us your story.
• These pictures are from our personal stash and are for personal use for you only! If you want to use them for a publication whether a book or magazine in print or digital form please ask for permission!
• If you want to participate we’ll have a linky list for each Whatever Post.
• You can also join our The Whatevers -Facebook Page

"Esta es la noche de la iniciación y Louise pasará a ser una nosotras.
La decana Amy será la encargada de ponerle su nuevo sombrero. Aquel que sólo podrá llevar las noches de Akelarre, como ésta. Y que dejará claro a las demás, de qué casta proviene"

La foto de este mes me ha encantado. La cara de la bisabuela es un poema y no quería dejar pasar la oportunidad de hacerle una página. No sé por qué, lo primero que me ha venido a la cabeza ha sido lo del akelarre. ¿Será que la abuela me recuerda a alguna "bruja"?

This month's picture cracked me up. The great mother is soooo cute and I didn't want to miss the chance to make a page in my journal. I don't know why, but the first thing that came to my mind was a Coven (Akelarre). Maybe the granny reminds me of a "witch" I know?

Finde productivo / busy weekend

Es lo que tiene que haya un finde largo (en Madrid fue fiesta el viernes) y esté lloviendo a cántaros...
La verdad es que me ha cundido para todo y como no, además de las obligaciones, un ratito para mí.

He estado trabajando en mis nuevos proyectos para StampersBest y Kuretake, en el regalo de mi amiga invisible de este año, en el regalo de mi amiga del noel mail art, grabando y montando vídeos para nuevos proyectos, en nuevos encarguitos de navidad y de paso, en algo para mí.

Os dejo una fotos que he ido poniendo en instagram.

Last friday was a bank holiday in Madrid and it's been raining all weekend long (well, not today but it is cooooold outside). So it's the perfect excuse for studio time.

I've been working on new projects for StampersBest and Kuretake, on my secret santa, on my noel mail art gift, recording new videos, new commissioned work and also, something for me.

AJED 2012 #20 - KISS ME

Cuando vi este sello de StampersBest no lo dudé un instante. Pa mí :) Divertido ¿verdad?
Y cuando estaba recortando imágenes de catálogos, la mirada de la niña me pareció ideal para mi página de art journal.
El fondo lo hice una tarde de "guarreo" con Alicia y lleva un poco de todo y "mica fragments" que brillan una barbaridad
Me gusta el resultado. Y a vosotros, ¿qué os parece?

When I saw this stamp from StampersBest I didn't hesitate. This one was for me :) Funny isn't it?
Then I saw this little girl's look I knew it would match the stamp perfectly.
The background is a mix of everything and a bit of mica fragments.
I like the page. And you? do you like it?
