Esta vez el reto está en utilizar algo de tu "arsenal artístico" que no hayas usado antes.

This time, the challenge is to use something from our stash that we've never used before.

Mi elección es el líquido enmascarador. Un compuesto a base de latex, de modo que al secarse actúa como una máscara y se despega como un plástico.


My choice was the masking liquid. Rubber latex based, acts as a mask when dry.

Mi idea era hacer una máscara de un stencil, de manera que tendría el positivo por un lado, y el negativo por el otro.

My idea was to make a mask from an stencil, so I could get the positive and the negative image.

Hasta ahí, una idea genial, seguro.

Great idea, for sure!! :)

Problema. Demasiado líquido. Aun aplicándolo con pincel sobre los huecos de la plantilla, el líquido entraba por los huecos. Aún así, dejé secarlo a ver qué pasaba.

The problem is... too much liquid. Eventhough I applied it carefully with a brush, the liquid slips under the stencil. I let it dry completely.

Y lo que pasó fue que se me quedó pegado en la cartulina. Al levantar la plantilla me llevé la cartulina por delante y fue directa a la basura.


And what happened is that the stencil stuck to the cardstock. I rip the tag off when I pull the stencil out, so the tag ended in the trash can.

Habrá que pensar otra cosa.

Aprovechando que es líquido, vamos a "pintar" con él. Al tener una base de latex, funcionaría bien en acetato. Asi que escribí con un pincel y lo dejé secar. Muuuucho mejor.


Taking advantage of the liquid, lets paint with it. Since it is latex based, I thought it would work well over acetate. So I wrote with the masking liquid using a brush. Way much better.

Ahora sí, esto ya me lo sé :) Unas cuantas tintas de alcohol y a retirar la máscara. Me gusta.

Then, the easiest part. Alcohol inks and pull the mask out. I liked it.

Seguí un poco más y como base le puse uno de los muchos tags que tengo siempre rondando con lo que "sobra".

I made a step further and I used an already painted tag. An interesting effect.

Qué he aprendido:

Que el líquido se cuela por las rendijas... (esto ya se daba en el cole, no?)
Que mi idea de hacer el positivo y negativo del stencil, al menos así, no funciona.
Que de vez en cuando hay que dar una vuelta al cuarto para encontrar materiales "nuevos"
¿Ventaja? Que es líquido y "apto" para pintar. mmmm aquí sí veo más posibilidades. Ya veremos.

What I've learned.


The idea of making the positive and negative wasn't bad, but it doesn't work this way.
The good thing is that you can "paint" with the masking liquid. I see more possibilities here. Let's see.
I have to clean my room more often. I found many other supplies I hardly ever use :)

Tintas de alcohol al cuello / alcohol inks pendant

Últimamente David está jugando mucho con mis trastos y a mí me encanta ver cómo desarrolla su creatividad.
De las cosas que más le gustan son estos colgantes de metal y tintas de alcohol.
Para lo básico, unas cuantas tintas, versamark, utee transparente y una arandela de metal de ferretería.

Ojo si hacéis esto con vuestros hijos. El metal se calienta mucho y se pueden quemar. Usad unas pinzas o esperad a que se enfríe.

One of his favourites is this pendant, made of a metal washer, alcohol inks and clear utee

If you try this project with your kids, be careful. The metal washer turns very hot and they could burnt themselves. Use tweezers or wait until it cools down.


¿Recordáis el truquito que enseñé en Inspirational, tips, techniques and tutorials para hacer nuestros propios aplicadores de fieltro? Pues aquí lo he usado.

Echad unas gotas de tinta en el fieltro y aplicadlo a la arandela de metal dando pequeños golpes, sin arrastrar.

You may remember a tip I showed you on Inspirational, tips, techniques and tutorial's blog
Here it is in action.

Put some different colour ink drops over the felt and apply it to the metal washer. Just tap on the metal, not rub it.

Una vez seco (no tarda nada), entintad la parte coloreada con versamark y aplicad una capa de utee. Repite 2 o 3 veces, hasta que adquiera un aspecto de esmalte.

Once dry, ink the coloured side of the washer with versamark and apply a coat of utee.

Add 2 or 3 more coats, until you get an enamel aspect on the washer.

Para la parte trasera, pegamos un papel estampado usando glossy accents.

Use a patterned paper to cover the back of the metal. Glue it with glossy accents

Lija los bordes y ponles un poco de tinta distress. Si quieres, puedes darle una capa de glossy para proteger el papel.

Sand the edges and apply distress inks. You can also add a coat of glossy accents to protect the back.

Ya sólo falta un cordón a juego y a lucirlo.

Prueba a añadirle una borla, o perlas, o una pieza de reloj. Imagina las posibilidades :)

Finally tie a ribbon cord and wear it.

Try to add a tassel, or pearls, or a charm or whatever... Imagine the possibilities :)

Por fin he podido estrenar parte del regalito de cumpleaños de unas amigas muy especiales.
Unas piezas de bambú para alterar.
Me gusta como ha quedado con las tintas de alcohol. Tengo que seguir experimentando.

Este mes es el mes de los propósitos para el año nuevo. Yo este año paso de ponerme objetivos personales. El año pasado lo hice y ahí se quedaron, que no cumplí ninguno. Así que el 2010 irá al tran-tran y que salga el sol por donde quiera...

Nuevos colgantes - New pendants

Cómo me han gustado las hojas de acetato en relieve que me ha mandado Vicky. He probado a colorearlas con tintas de alcohol y utilizarlas como base para uno de estos colgantes. La foto no le hace justicia, pero los colores quedan preciosos con el metal. El texto del colgante largo está impreso en una transparencia y cubierto con glossy accents. Me encantan. Espero que os guste a vosotras también.

I really love the embossed acetate pages that Vicky sent me. I colored them with alcohol inks and used them as a base for one of these pendants. Trust me, the colours are pretty much vibrant than the picture shows. The text in the long pendant is printed out on a transparency and covered with glossy accents. I love them. Hope you like it as well. Thanks for your visit.

No me he podido aguantar a usar uno de los acetatos en relieve que me ha enviado Vicky. Esta es una ATC que he hecho con uno de ellos utilizando tintas de alcohol. Gracias por la visita.
