The Highlands. Handfasting ceremony

When I started planning this trip, one of my wishes was to celebrate a vow renewal ceremony.
I needed someone in Scotland to arrange everything, only for us and in a unique and stunning place.
I did my research and I found it, and I discard it, because it was out of the budget.
When our family started to ask if we wanted something special for our anniversary, Marta had the idea to ask for money, instead of gifts, to help defray the cost of the ceremony.
So she contacted Angie, via her website, who arranged everything and together, they prepared the best surprise of the trip. A handfasting vow renewal ceremony.

Robert picked us up in his taxi from Beauly, a beautiful village near Inverness in the Highlands.

An hour after we arrived to the ruins of Duffus Castle, in an excepcional location, where Johnny, the "lone piper" in all his "kilt glory" greeted us with "Amazing Grace". A spectacular surprise.

I don't have words to explain how we felt while walking up the hill with the pipe tune in the background.

Goosebumps in our skins, a big smile in our faces, the castle only for us, we walked up completely touched and excited.

Angie's welcome was so kind and moving.

Together with Marta, they created a meaningful ceremony for us. Completeley personal and heartfelt.

We were ready

"Handfasting is a ritualistic joining of two people entering into a commitment willingly and according to agreements they’ve previously discussed and settled upon for the future of their relationship.  As you have been married for twenty five years already and are today receiving the gift of this ceremony from your children David and Marta, we are taking it that you are willing but still I ask: Cuchy and Marty is it your intent to be hand fasted here today?"

These are a couple of pages from my artjournal about the ceremony. The images have been transferred to watercolour paper. the pieces of fabric are part of 2 of the ribbons which we were hand fasted with. 5 ribbons in total. One for each 5 year period of our marriage

Will, Angie's husband was our official photographer. He remained "invisible" during the ceremony and "play" with us during the photo sesion afterwards. He captured our happiness of every moment. Very kind, professional and "charming" with a lovely scottish accent :)
We love your photos, Will. Thanks

A day to remember. To our kids, our family and friends and our three exceptional scottish witnesses, Angie, Will and Johnny, thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts.
