Scotland, the brave - Edinburgh II

Our second day in Edinburgh, starts in St. Giles Cathedral and the Thistle Chapel

The Thistle Chapel is the chapel of The Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle, Scotland's foremost Order of Chivalry. The chapel was built in 1911 to designs by Sir Robert Lorimer, at the south-east corner of the church. It is small, but exquisite, with carved and painted fittings of extraordinary detail. One figure depicts an angel playing bagpipes. The Order, which was founded by King James VII in 1687, consists of the Scottish monarch and 16 knights. The knights are the personal appointment of the monarch, and are normally Scots who have made a significant contribution to national or international affairs. (wikipedia)

La capilla es una preciosidad. Y hasta tiene "pokemones" ;)

You can see how beautiful the chapel is. It even has "pokemon" ;)

We were lucky there was a concert there. The Second Presbyterian Church Choir, from Arkansan, USA. A privilege being able to listen to the organ.

What not everybody knows is that you are allowed to go up to the roof, with an unusual view of the Royal Mile and Edinburgh. I don't remember the fee, but not too much. It is worth the 92 steps just for curiosity. If you want to take pictures inside the Cathedral, you have to buy a permit at the information desk.

This is my travel journal page, about the visit.

We went for a walk towards Greyfriars kirk, to visit Bobby. On our way, we passed by the Elephant House. Pilgrimage place for all Harry Potter fans

The graveyard is so well taken care and it's a so quiet garden, that people have lunch just there on the grass or even on the graves... not sure how I feel about it...

We dedicated the afternoon to the Castle.
We took a guided tour with a guy from Valencia so passionate about the Castle's history that made our visit very interesting.
I have read so many books situated here that the treasure, the stone of Scone (stone of destiny), the hills.. everything was familiar.
From all the museums inside the castle, I pick the treasure, the stone, the memorial of the war, the St, Margaret's Chapel and the exhibitions prisons of war.

From all the old stories we heard about Scotland these days, I pick the legend about the Thistle and why it is the national flower of Scotland.

"In truth, no one knows for certain how the purple-flowered thistle rose to such lofty significance. But one legend has it a sleeping party of Scots warriors were saved from ambush by an invading Norse army when one of the enemies trod on the spiky plant.
His anguished cry roused the slumbering warriors who duly vanquished the invader and adopted the thistle as their national symbol.

Of course, there is not a shred of evidence to support this account, but it certainly makes a good story." (visit Scotland)

They are everywhere. and not the thistle we are used to see in our countryside, but these are huge.

And this one, my version in my travel journal

Mañana, nos vamos a las Highlands...
